Mansion Weave has its origins in 17th century France and takes its name from where it originated, i.e. in palaces and other large homes (i.e. mansions), and the fact that it looks like a traditional weaving pattern used in textile production. Mansion Weave is often chosen only for a more prominent part of the house to create a sense of luxury, along with planks of the same color for the rest of the house. It is arguably a more sophisticated pattern than herringbone and chevron because the grains run in three different directions.

Floors made of planks of different widths are considered more organic/natural because trees create planks of different widths. A "mixed width" plank floor combines a number of widths that are installed in a repeating pattern.
